Trimetazidine Description
Trimetazidine works by shifting myocardial and skeletal muscle energy metabolism from fatty acid oxidation to glucose oxidation. Because glucose oxidation requires less oxygen to produce ATP than fatty acid oxidation, the heart and skeletal musculature become more efficient at utilizing oxygen. This results in an improvement in muscular endurance, as well as overall work capacity, especially under conditions where oxygen demand is high.
